Our composer spotlight focuses on one of the most iconic alternative artists of the past two decades, James Iha .
James has had a prolific career as a singer-songwriter, guitarist, producer and mixer, and is now making strides in the scoring world. He was a founding member and songwriter for The Smashing Pumpkins and toured internationally with them for 13 years. During this time, they released ten albums and sold over 20 million copies in the U.S. alone. The Smashing Pumpkins are regarded as one of the most successful and groundbreaking bands of the 90’s. James later co-founded Scratchie Records, an indie label that has released albums by The Sounds, The Strokes’ Albert Hammond Jr., and Robbers on High Street, as well as recording studios called Stratosphere Sound.
After leaving The Smashing Pumpkins, James released two solo albums Let It Come Down and Look to the Sky. For the past several years, he has been the touring guitarist for the critically-acclaimed progressive rock band A Perfect Circle. James’ past scoring highlights include Canadian indie feature Luck, and Japanese indiesLinda Linda Linda, and Kakera. He also recently worked on Deadbeat, a Hulu original series starring Tyler Labine and Brandon T. Jackson.
