La stella che non c’e’ | Franco Piersanti
An Italian maintenance engineer finds himself unemployed when the steelworks is closed and the contents of the plant is sold to Chinese investors. Realizing that there is a potentially fatal design flaw in one of the blast furnaces, he travels to Shanghai at his own expense to bring a corrected part to the new owners, only to find that the equipment has been sold yet again and he must make an epic journey across a foreign land.
Award-winning composer Franco Piersanti continues his long collaboration with director Gianni Amelio with this journey through the Far East. Echoing the sense of wonder and discovery of the film’s main character, the score is highly situational, relying less on the traditional establishment and development of themes and motifs, and concentrating instead on providing a sonic backdrop for the varied landscapes through which the film travels.
