Last Time Forever | Randy Miller
In the vein of “Body Heat,” “The Postman Always Rings Twice” and “Double Indemnity,” writer/director Adam Bonfanti’s 2006 neo-noir details the hatching of an elaborate blackmail scheme after a divorce attorney falls for a married woman.
Conceived and paced so as to seamlessly meld with the story’s methodical build and elaborate payoff, composer Randy Miller (“Without Limits,” “The Soong Sisters”) employs a series of eerily orchestrated string and piano arrangements, colored with delicate, hesitant rhythms. Ranging from predominantly incidental cues like His Money and Beaumont Breaks In to more traditionally rich and classical efforts like Looking in the Mirror and Outrageous Terms, it’s a score that both adheres to and defies the conventions of the genre – beguiling without so much as a hint of melodrama. The boozy piano lounge track Yo Tambien is a refreshing bonus.
