Samsung Goes Shark Diving in the Outback
When advertising and technology meet, it definitely catches our attention.
Alice Springs is a city right in the middle of Australia. In other words, it’s land-locked. Why in the world (and how!) would electronics giant Samsung want to set up a shark diving shop there?
Leo Burnett Sydney and Samsung teamed up to do just that for the latest campaign for the Samsung Gear VR, their Virtual Reality Device.
Patrons of this dive shop, expecting to enjoy an impossible saltwater dive, were instead treated to a virtual shark dive using the Samsung Gear VR. They experienced vivid, realistic views of the underwater world, complete with terrifying encounters with sharks.
At the end of the ad, they reveal a piece of everyday technology that powers the device.
Facebook and Google have VR devices in the works and as Arno Lenior, chief marketing officer at Samsung Electronics Australia stated, “The potential for this platform is huge – and we wanted to create something that would bring some of that potential to life.”
