Shanghai Red | Randy Miller
Vivian Wu (“The Pillow Book”) stars for writer/director Oscar L. Costo as a widow whose quest for vengeance in the murder of her husband draws her into a dangerous, beguiling, time-tripping web of intrigue.
In one of his most musically accomplished and heartfelt scores, composer Randy Miller taps both American and Chinese musical influences, wrapping it all in lush, richly-evocative orchestrations and vocal work. Such tracks as What’s Your Red, Cake with Son and Michael’s Story convey an impassioned sense of history, time, place and bygone happiness to contrast with the mystery, urgency and foreboding of tracks like The Photo, The Phone Call, and The Truth. Like the film itself, Miller’s score represents the painful clash between past and present, hope and reality.
