The Dead Girl | Adam Gorgoni
An exceptional ensemble cast drives this psychologically intense murder thriller, split into five hard-hitting vignettes set in the rural wastelands outside Los Angeles.
Composer Adam Gorgoni (Waiting…) reprises his creative relationship with director Karen Moncrieff (Blue Car) on a slow-paced score that allows for fine textural detail — there’s a reflective quality to the sparse piano lines and touches of mournful violin, a recurring flute that floats like smoke from a pyre, misty electronics that glow like embers, and an emphasis on rough-edged, subtly reverb’d electric guitar shrouded in echo. And vocalist Renee Stahl contributes a couple of standout songs.
