The Midnight Meat Train | Johannes Kobilke, Robert Williamson
Superior gore outing adapted by Japanese director Ryuhei Kitamura from a Clive Barker short story about a photographer who tries to track down a serial killer.
Building on a partnership cemented for the score of Pathology (2008), composers Johannes Kobilke and Robb Williamson continued their sonic exploration of horror territory with this stunning fusion of electronic, classical, choral, and industrial rock elements — sound effects scrape and twist, pockets of molten brass erupt like geysers, and metallic meat-hammer beats pummel the senses . . . but there’s also scope for delicacy and reflection, even if those slower sequences are qualified by sonic hints of something malicious.
